27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

Cognitive Surplus, Clay Shirky
1) The general theme of this book is talking about the idea of what we would be doing during the time we all watch TV. The "cognitive surplus" is the free time of people that are giving up TV for more online platforms.
2) This connects with our class because TV and online platforms are taking over the time of everyone around the world. Also, the internet and social media are always changing and we as entrepreneurs have to be ready for these changes with online platforms.
3) It would be to create a social media advertisement that can be used universally on all platforms and maybe even TV.
4)The biggest surprise was that he made it out to seem that everyone and everything on the internet was positive and had a great purpose. In my opinion, the internet is a place of good and evil depending on the subject.

Hey Erika, interesting read; I haven't read this one this semester but seems like there is a lot of useful information here. Most people don't really do much in their free time, with their hobby being "watching television" (which isn't really a hobby at all). Also, even switching from television to more online platforms would be very beneficial for entrepreneurs because most people are shifting to their mobile devices and leaving traditional TV (and cable) behind.

    Hey Erika,
I agree that entrepreneurs have to adapt to the modern technologies and social media. Especially social media because it's one of the ways they can communicate with their costumers and find out that their needs are. When a company has a good social media, its reputation and impact in the society is automatically bigger what helps them so sell their products.

Amazing. You have without a doubt nailed the general theme of the book. I had to reread your writings multiple times just to understand the level of catharses one can achieves through the extrapolation of your quintessential reading performance. Without a doubt you have personified the atypical traits of a true champion that only few of your generation can ever achieve. Congratulations.
