20A – Growing Your Social Capital

1) Jennifer Houston, Wolf Pup Daycare Director. Studied early childhood and has been teaching children for over 15 years.

2) She is a market expert because she goes through many different learning tools every day that get her kids to learn better.

3) I worked in her daycare for 3 years while in high school and emailed her to ask her some questions.

4) I asked some questions about her job and how she handles multilingual children. She does not expect anything in return since we know each other. 

5) This will give me the guidance and expertise about early childhood and how kids interact with their environments. As well as parents interact with each child.

1) Kristen Wright, Early Childhood High School Teacher. Has been teaching early childhood education to high school students for almost 10 years.

2) She is a domain expert because she has researched the best ways to get children learning and motivate them to learn new languages.

3) I was taught early childhood education by her for four years in high school. She helped me get my Child Developmental Associate while in high school. I emailed her as well.

4) I asked her about how my product would help and if it was a reasonable and feasible way to teach children. She also does not expect much in return because I babysit her kids.

5) This will help me further my knowledge on the growth of the child’s brain and how it will function while using a product like mine.

1) Sharon Williams, a teacher at Baby Gator at the University of Florida.

2) She is a supplier because she is the one who teaches the child and shows them the new tools to learn new things.

3) I found and emailed her by looking up professionals in childcare at UF and came across a list of teachers that work at this preschool.

4) It was strictly professional and a casual conversation about her job. She has asked me if I continue my idea outside of the class to come to try it out on her kids.

5) This will help me ensure parents that this product does work and that I have tried it with students trying to learn multiple languages. It will give parents peace of mind that this actually works.

19A – Idea Napkin No. 2

1. I am a second-year advertising major with a minor in innovation. I also have been dancing for 16 years and competed for 12. I would like to be a part of a major advertising agency and maybe open a dance studio of my own. I do not see my business playing a role in my life at the moment but maybe in the future.
2. I intend to sell a language learning tool that aids children in developing multiple languages. It will teach different languages while also being a game. There will be different levels of the game where it gets harder as you learn more. For example, it might show a picture of an animal as well as say the name of that animal in your native language. You would then need to press the button that correlates to that screen. As it focuses on child learning first, it will then start upgrading to full sentences and grammar. It would connect to an app that tracks your learning process as well as change the language you want to use and learn. 
3. This will market to parents and young students who want to learn a second language easily. Primarily in the US but the opportunity to grow outside to other countries in the future.
4. There is a rise of businesses and jobs in the United States that require applicants to speak more than one language, and sometimes more than just two. The demand for bilingual workers has doubled in the past five years. Bilingual children outperform children who only speak one language in problem-solving skills, critical thinking, multitasking, and they have a stronger ability to focus.
5. Many language learning tools are app-based and are not fun to do. This product makes it a game for kids while teaching them different languages.

I believe most of these elements fit together with my business concept. The one element that is out-of-joint with the others is the one that describes my talents and future goals. I did not get any criticism or advice to change or improve my product. All of the feedback I received was positive.

17A – Elevator Pitch No. 2

2) Some feedback I received was to make sure to hit closer to 90 seconds for the pitch, add more facts and examples, be more confident, use hand gestures, and try rehearsing it. I think the most important ones are to be more confident and to add more facts/examples. I thought the advice to get closer to 90 seconds isn’t necessary as long as I’m getting all the information across that is needed.

3) I changed the way I stood and tried to be more confident while speaking. I tried to add more hand gestures to make the pitch seem more natural. I also added a few more facts and examples to further explain my product.

18A – Create a Customer Avatar

My customer avatar is middle-aged parents that have full-time jobs. They live in an area where a second language isn’t very customary, or they don’t teach it in schools. They want to spend time having fun with their kids but also give them a great education.

I don’t have much in common with the customer avatar other than wanting a great education and not living in an area where a second language is popular. I do think this is a coincidence as I first came up with the idea based on my needs.

16A –What’s Your Secret Sauce?

1)    I have experience in many different areas including education, business, and science.

2)    I am super organizational and always have three separate calendars/planners that have everything I need to know about my week/day/month.

3)    I have great multitasking skills since I did many clubs and athletics in high school.

4)    I put other people’s emotions and feelings above anything I say or do.

5)    I am good at being a leader and being in charge of a team to achieve a goal.

1) I asked my boyfriend what he thought made me different and he said that I care about people and the things they want. This helps me by observing and seeing what customers want and caring about their opinions on what I can change to make it better.

2) I then asked my sister and she said that once I set my mind to something that I will do it no matter what. This helps me because I will try my hardest to complete and perfect this product no matter the problems and issues that I face.

3) I asked my brother and he said that since I grew up as a dancer who had dance practice every day for 4 hours, I have good time management skills and can balance multiple things at a time. This can help me manage my business and make sure everything gets done on time.

4) I asked my best friend and she said that my ability to see flaws that many others may not see makes me different. This helps by being objective about my product and not being biased.

5) Lastly, I asked my mom what made me different and she said my willingness to do whatever it takes to reach a goal. My takeaway is that no matter the issue or problem, I will find a way to overcome it to reach my goal.

I see myself as a leader and someone who can listen to other people’s opinions to help further that team to a goal. My friends and family see me as someone who won’t let problems get in their way and not letting my personal feelings affect my work. I think the differences are caused by the way I want myself to be and how I naturally come off to people. I would not make any corrections because I see that list as the best parts of myself.

15A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

1)    In the first interview, she stated that the most important factor of a product is time price and longevity of it. How can you get the most use out of the product or how can it grow as you grow? This is related to my idea of the language tool being upgraded every time you think you are ready for harder difficulty. She also said that she knows she made a good purchase when she sees or feels a difference.

2)    In my second interview, he said that the most important factor is the quality of the product. He looks for how well does this work and asks if it will get ruined easily. He mentioned that a lot of new products or services he tries has a bug or something wrong with it. He wants something that works off the bat and has no bugs. He said that he will most likely buy something for the first time if he sees it in person and then buys multiples of it if he likes it online. He knows that he doesn’t like a product after buying it if that product doesn’t help or is hard to use.

3)    In my third interview, he said that the most important factor of a product the style and quality. He wants a product that can look good in his home and or fit in with his lifestyle. He also mentioned that it is really important to him that he finds good reviews of a product before buying. He wants something that other people have tried and found out if there are any problems. He wants to know all the information before buying a product. As well as he knows if he bought a good product if he doesn’t have any problems while using it. Including problems he finds that finds within his lifestyle.

14A – Halfway Reflection

1)    I have kept up with all the assignments by putting everything in all of my calendars. I first write each assignment in my planner and then reminders in my google calendar and the weekly calendar on my wall.

2)    I felt like giving up when I got a bad grade for one of my writing assignments for my writing class. I felt as if I did not deserve that grade because I worked really hard on that essay. I pulled through by talking to my professor on what I can improve and what I did great on. I do feel like I have developed a tenacious attitude because I feel like I have a better grip on my classes and schedule this semester.

3)     

1)    Make sure to have reminders and a planner to get all your assignments in on time.

2)    Look at each assignment with a new attitude and outlook then you did on the last.

3)    Actually go back to the comments that other students put on your posts so you can get tips and advice that can help you later in the course.
